The Choice: Hideki Matsuyama – T5
Last week, his scorching-hot finish bagged a spot on the podium (T3). Fantastic around the greens and off the tee, the newly expanded greens will give him ample targets from the fairways. When he WD moments before his tee time, you can blame me. I have big shoulders.
Another week, another closing round of 64. Too little too late in the Big Game.
This Week – Wyndham Championship
The Choice: Ryan Gerard
UNC grad. North Carolina native. No overthinking it.
Other choices would include Justin Thomas, Tom Kim, and, obviously, Jackson Koivun. Ranked 70th, he will need to make the cut to guarantee his place in Memphis. The last two winners here are first-time victors on TOUR as well.
My angle this week would default to guys who enjoy or grew up on Bermudagrass and have no problem going low to break ties. The last time they were on Bermuda was in early May in Charlotte. Grass matters.
