Fantasy Golf: BMW Yahoo! picks featuring Ned Brown

09-06-16

Another week, another week of mismanagement.

We learn something every week as gamers, right?

I prefer to bang my head against the same wall instead…

Looks like I wasn’t alone, either!

For those of you who don’t know, Ned has been a MAYJAH PLAYAH in the world of Yahoo! and was a contributing writer at Rotoworld before, during and after my tenure there.

Ned and I both took a bath last weekend as 62 and 58 destroyed average, under-par rounds which usually accumulate points. See the picture above for answers…

Let’s see how we match up this week!

Ned Brown (@Esoxgolf)

Points: DBC: 154

Points: SEASON: 5,163

Rank: SEASON: 4,402

Group A
Dustin Johnson (2): I thought Johnson showed a renewed focus at the Deutsche Bank and a long hitter like him should love Crooked Stick.
Jason Day (2): The Aussie has been playing well in here, but he is a bit off. Don’t know if he is a bit worn out. Those that are looking for a alternative, Ryan Moore is playing well and he tied for tenth here in ’12.
Alternates
Ryan Moore, Adam Scott
Group B
Rory McIlroy (1): A killer at the DB for me as I held off on using McIlroy in the final round seeing that he was six-strokes off the pace going into an event that he won at in ’12. He is the clear favorite going into this week and I will finally burn my last start on him.
Hideki Matsuyama (4): After his T4 at the PGA and his T-3 at the Wyndham, he MC at The Barclays. However he rebounded well last week with at T-15 at the DB
Jimmy Walker (6): After Walker won the PGA, he went into and understandable slump of missing his next two cuts. He shook off his post major hangover last week with a T-15 at the DB.
Patrick Reed (2): He claimed the crown to the first leg of the Playoffs with a championship at The Barclays and then followed it up with a very nice T-5 last week at the DB.
Alternates
Ryan Palmer, Justin Rose, J.B. Holmes
Group C
Emiliano Grillo (6): He finished last week at T-33 at the DB, which is a break from his most recent pattern of five top 15’s in his last seven starts on the TOUR.
Louis Oosthuizen (10): The South African has played well over the last month and the highlight came last week at the DB with a T-8. He played well here in ’12 with  T-16 finish.
Alternates
Charl Schwartzel, Paul Casey, Branden Grace

Last week

Awful August has now seeped into September.

I can’t stop the slide as my guessing skills have gone out the window with the players I do roster.

With no McIlroy, Casey, Walker or Scott, it’s hardly a surprise that I’ve fallen even farther behind.

My best pick of the week was playing Oosthuizen on Saturday so that’s not saying much.

I’ve listed thoughts on all 70 golfers here:

This week

Last time around, Crooked Stick was bombed into Bolivia as Mike Tyson would say. Hell, Phil Mickelson made 28 birdies and didn’t win! The course isn’t as soft this year but…with weather forecasted for late Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we’ll have to wait and see.

It’s time to gamble. I’m going to ride guys who are hot and that should balance out for East Lake.

I hope.

If you don’t see a big-name player listed below it’s because I am limited on starts and saving for next week.

Check my preview for any questions you might have but the answer is going to be YES, FIRE AWAAAAAAAY!

Group A

Season starts remaining in (  )

Dustin Johnson (3)

Jason Day (2)

Yeah, I’d play Scott here. Yeah, I’d play Spieth here. Yeah. Let this be a lesson to Yahoo! gamers who are “saving starts” for down the road.

Don’t.

Play them. Light it up.

I’m taking WAY TOO MANY to the grave of 2016!

Group B:

Rory McIlroy (1)

Patrick Reed (1)

Hideki Matsuyama (4)

Russell Knox (10)

So long, Patrick Reed! I hope you sail the ship into port with more bounty than you’ve already collected! I’ll find some scallywags for East Lake (I hope!).

Group C:

Branden Grace (4)

Emiliano Grillo (9)

King Louis did me well on Sunday last week but I still missed the switcheroo on Monday for Grillo. I can’t time it. And with no cut this week, I’ll be Captain Strugglebus again! Danny Berger is going to be my white whale???

So that’s that. Panic, fade or follow.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG????
