Well, that was fun.
Gamers had plenty of big choices to make last week with 46 of the top 50 players in the field but it was the first choice that made or broke most rosters.
I leaned on the course form of McIlroy at TPC Sawgrass as the tie-breaking vote.
Day is on fire and he deserves every plaudit he gets. He’s won more than anyone over the last three years and only McIlroy was won more recently.
The bad news is I haven’t cashed on any of three wins.
Bay Hill: Never finished better than T-17 in five tries.
WGC-Match Play: New track, bad back and nobody wins back-to-back.
THE PLAYERS: Shot 81 last year and nothing better than T-6.
BUT BUT BUT I believe the best is yet to come!
How is that possible?
Oakmont is impossible. He kills it off the tee and his short game (read below) & putting are fantastic. Oh, and his agent is a member there.
He’s had no history at The Open and nearly won there last year.
Firestone is no picnic but the bigger and meaner, the better.
He rakes at East Lake so you can even save him for the final event of the season.
Day doesn’t need course form when he’s playing like this, but I’m still skeptical at Memorial, in Columbus, his home base, where he’s had nothing better than T-27 in six tries. Buyer beware but he needs to be in the MAX DOLLAR events conversation.
