Quick Thoughts on Detroit Golf Club

Go low. The end.

Cut 5-under in the first two editions = no room for scores in the 70s.

Wide open track means BOMBS AWAY. Tons of big boy drives here = wedges into greens.

Gotta hole putts to post 24-ish under! If you don’t hit GIR holing putts for par are a must.

Putting contest and birdie festival = doors open to anyone!

Guys will get healthy this week as they all know how to make birdies.

Perfect event to celebrate ‘Merica people! Bombs, birdies and beers!

Let’s recap last week first:

Last Week – Travelers Championship

Bryson DeChambeau (+1400): I like this more than I liked Jon Rahm at +850 at the US Open! Pride to bounce back after 44 should be on full display on a track that he’s enjoyed in bomber life and pre-bomber life. I will NOT talk you out of this.  T19 after another Sunday back nine zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Dustin Johnson (+1400): I’d bet he would NOT be here if he wasn’t the defending champion. Omit. Tied Zach Johnson for 25th.

Patrick Cantlay (+1600): The legend grew when he shot 60 as an amateur in 2011. He’s never hit the top 10 but has four top 25s in six starts. Still hasn’t hit the top 10 (T13) but now has FIVE top 25s in seven starts.

Paul Casey (+1800): Tell him it’s Valspar and get to the window. Plenty of close calls here and will feel he’s paid his dues. I’m paying for him this week across the board, Win, Top 10, Top 20. And I’ve paid dearly. Out in 31 on Thursday to get to 4-under. Finished the week 4-under. L L L.

Brooks Koepka (+2200): Best finish came when he wasn’t arriving fresh off a US Open win. That box is also checked this week. I’m not checking it but you can. T5 as he continues to baffle in non-majors.

Patrick Reed (+2200): When he makes the cut, it’s T17 or better. When he makes the cut here, it’s usually T30 or better. Closed 67 last week and 64 last year. Top 10, Top 20. T25 is not T17 or better. L L.

Scottie Scheffler (+2500): Didn’t fire at Colonial but excels on monster tracks. Three of the last four in the top 10 includes two majors and Memorial. Top 10, Top 20. 6-under and in the top 10 heading into the weekend. Then 71-72 for T47. L L

Brian Harman (+2500): Top 20 heavy. T5. Seems easy. W.

Abraham Ancer (+2500): He’ll test my theory about ignoring poor US Open results. His worst TOUR check in 2021 is T26, nine straight times before last week.  I’ll let YOU test MY theory haha. Hope you tested it! T5.

33-1 or worse

Kevin Streelman (+3300): I can’t quit now, not on a course where he’s a former champ. Across the board. MC L L L.

Harris English (+4500): Top 20. Won the tournament so that’s good. W.

Bubba Watson (+4500): Win or bust. Worth a punt here to say the least. Just brutal brutal brutal. Bust indeed. L

Keegan Bradley (+5000): Top 10 and Top 20. L and L. MC.

Rickie Fowler (+6000): Better get on here just in case. Skinny win ticket plus Top 10 and Top 20. L L L MC.

Longer Shots

Doc Redman (+9000): T2 last time out was second top 10 in four events. Top 20 minimum. T61

Marc Leishman (+9000): Nice price for a former winner who’s won this year at Zurich with Cam Smith. Skinny win ticket. Solo 3rd.

Aaron Wise (+9000): T9 bookends in his last four on TOUR.  Top 20. T66

Mackenzie Hughes (+12500): FRL or T-FRL his last two trips. So skinny FRL! Nope.

Brendan Steele (+12500): 6 top 25s in 8 starts. Top 20 heavy. MC heavy.

Brandt Snedeker (+12500): Ride the heat to Top 20 town. MC heavy.

Seamus Power (+12500): Monday Q has been cashing checks including T19 and T9 in his last two. Top 20 please. Another T19, cashed.

Funny Money

CT Pan (+17500) MC

Will Gordon (+20000) Last

KH Lee (+25000) T6 heading into Sunday, shot 80

Hank Lebioda (+25000) T5, best of the year.

Satoshi Kodaira (+27500): T36, four straight inside the top 40.

Nick Taylor (+27500) Four straight blown up.

Beau Hossler (+30000) 2021 best T10.

Rob Oppenheim (+30000) MC

Adam Schenk (+35000) MC
