After a double header of disappointment last week, what could possibly go wrong in San Antonio?

Probably everything.

2020-2021 OAD

50 events, the most since the mid-70s, will give us plenty of time for strategy, strength and disaster.

Joel Dahmen rolled in with MC in five of his last six before picking up his first win on TOUR. Sure he was T12 and T11 his last two visits but

THE CHOICE: 

Thomas Pieters – T13

Not saving him for anywhere else! Plenty of talent and it’s not his first rodeo in the Caribbean so that helps as well.

Plenty of power should help him get around and should provide an advantage on the Par-5 holes.

Final round 74 knocked him out of the top 10 but not too bothered.

Let the record reflect that the previous three winners all hit the top 10 in this edition!

Brice Garnett: Loves Paspalum and is in form with T25 at Honda and T5 at Puerto Rico in two of his last three. T9 as the Paspalum persuasion plays again!

Charley Hoffman: Veteran presence also thrives in paradise and on paspalum. Veteran closed bogey-quad to drop out of the top 10 and cash T34.

Jhonattan Vegas: Knew he was disappointed as Branden Grace came from behind at Puerto Rico to beat him by a shot. Bounce back time. T18.

Spicy:

Nate Lashley: Previous winner here on KFT and 4th last year. Cashed 5 straight on TOUR. T28.

Tyler McCumber: Spiritual home as he MQ for his first TOUR start (T19) two years ago. Went close here last year (2nd). T19 AGAIN!

Chase Seiffert: Last two on TOUR are T3 Honda and T15 Puerto Rico. Superb putter on a track where putting matters. T18.

Ryan Palmer: Form has been outstanding and he didn’t have to battle 7 matches in the wind last week.

Jordan Spieth: Next week folks but great players just don’t turn it on and off. He’s playing well and this field is a bit different than the one at Augusta.

Scottie Scheffler: Young Texan gave Billy Horschel a run while knocking out Ian Poulter and Jon Rahm along the way. T20 on debut provides a footing.

Spicy:

Abraham Ancer: Home game and looking for his first win on TOUR. Interesting combo.

Brendan Steele: Won his first TOUR event here in 2021 and has been playing great as of late:

Branden Grace: Proven wind player as recently demonstrated by his victory in Puerto Rico.

2018-19

My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.

Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
