Last Week – The Honda Classic
Matt Jones opened with 61 and eventually won by and wasn’t on my radar! The Aussie becomes the fourth 40-something to win this season and continues the three year trend of anybody, any style at Honda. The Florida Swing was brutal, just like most of the year, for me so whatever.

THE CHOICE:
Joaquin Niemann – T25
I was so uninspired by this panic pick that I forgot I had taken him until Sunday about 5 pm when my buddy asked me who I had this week.
I missed he was T16 after 36 holes so I didn’t get THE TINGLES of false hope. He was eight back anyhow. Moving day saw him move the wrong way with 73 before closing with 69.
If there’s one pick that sums up my season, here it is. Early signs of life followed by just fine golf for a nice T25.

Daniel Berger: No brainer here unless you wait for a bigger prize pool (and much tougher field) in Memphis. He did gamers a favor and was a pre-tournament WD. Thanks, Daniel!
Russell Henley: His part of the country and his favorite putting surface. Again, not following my own advice as he hits the podium, T3.
Adam Scott: I’ve soured on him as of late. That doesn’t mean you have to follow. Picked up his worst finish here in five weekends with T12.
Brendan Steele: Joins Scott in the “glad I don’t have to make a million birdies this week” club. Super course form and hasn’t MC in seven straight on TOUR. Make it eight straight on TOUR and six straight Hondas T14 or better with T3.
Spicy:
Sungjae Im: Never crazy about guys in their first defense on TOUR. His record here is excellent in two starts and he’s cashed eight straight on TOUR. All four rounds par or better for his second top 10 in three visits T8.
Wyndham Clark: With first-time winners here a thing the last two, I could see three straight. Need to make the cut to have a chance, fam! MC.
Talor Gooch: With first-time winners here a thing the last two, I could see three straight. Big week last week should have him pumped up. T46 suggests Sawgrass took a bit out of him.
Lee Westwood: I mean, the last two weeks either will push him on or kill him off. Fascinating either way. Trip to Augusta with his son Monday probably wasn’t helpful to his performance. MC
Ben An: Loves it here and MC at TPC Sawgrass is hardly shameful. I’ll just go back to following him on Twitter and save these spots for others. MC.

Not saving him for anywhere else! Plenty of talent and it’s not his first rodeo in the Caribbean so that helps as well.
Plenty of power should help him get around and should provide an advantage on the Par-5 holes.

Brice Garnett: Loves Paspalum and is in form with T25 at Honda and T5 at Puerto Rico in two of his last three.
Charley Hoffman: Veteran presence also thrives in paradise and on paspalum.
Jhonattan Vegas: Knew he was disappointed as Branden Grace came from behind at Puerto Rico to beat him by a shot. Bounce back time.
Spicy:
Nate Lashley: Previous winner here on KFT and 4th last year. Cashed 5 straight on TOUR.
Tyler McCumber: Spiritual home as he MQ for his first TOUR start (T19) two years ago. Went close here last year (2nd).
Chase Seiffert: Last two on TOUR are T3 Honda and T15 Puerto Rico. Superb putter on a track where putting matters.

2018-19
My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.
Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
