Fantasy Golf: The Open/Barbasol Recap

Henrik Stenson put on a clinic as he shot 63 from the front to win his first major championship at Royal Troon. Aaron Baddeley flushed his demons down the drain in Alabama to win on Tour for the first time since 2011

Royal Troon might have crowned another first-time major champion but the Swede was nothing less than deserving.

His eviscerated Royal Troon from tee-to-green and made PLENTY of putts to set the new scoring aggregate record in a major. His 20-under matched Jason Day’s from Whistling Straits last summer.

The GREAT NEWS for gamers? He’s just getting started as he usually does during this time of year!

Plenty of angles played out this week from crusty veterans doing work to youngsters who were playing well kept on keepin’ on. Also, the weather and luck of the draw didn’t disappoint as they were predictably unpredictable, a sign of a classic open.

In Alabama, gamers saw for the second year in a row that a resort course with plenty of stops and starts due to weather would get turned over. There were too many birdies to count but here’s a secret: there will be more made this week at Glen Abbey!

Quick Thoughts From Barbasol:

Si Woo Kim (P-2): Just turned 21, plays a ton and now has 10 top 25’s to go along with his best-ever finish; patience is necessary but there is PLENTY of talent; no shame in losing to a Tour winner in a playoff!

Michael Johnson (3rd): Be careful. The Auburn grad was essentially playing his home course.

Andres Gonzales (T-4): His two best finishes of the year are in his last three events…

Jhonattan Vegas (T-4): In two of his last three events he’s opened with 65. This week he followed with a career-best 60 and it’s never easy to follow that up. There’s something brewing here.

Brian Harman (T-8): I love this stat as he’s posted has 14 career top 10’s on 14 DIFFERENT courses. He’s the ANTI-horse-for-course!
