Nobody called it the Crown Plaza.
Nobody called it the Master Card.
I call it Colonial because it’s the oldest tournament on Tour played on the same course regardless of recent sponsors.
A hot streak of two weeks is all I have to show but I have yet begun to fight

I just realized in my Golfweek column that I’ve gone with Kuchar which isn’t legal since I’ve already used him.
Soooooooooo, CROSS HIM OFF THE LIST!
I think he’s the play this week if he’s available so that point stands but I can’t roster him.
Let’s see what’s there to be had!
2015-16 season
Season total: $4,533,917; 28 events
- Wins: 2 (Matsuyama, WMPO; Hoffman, Valero)
- Seconds: 0
- Thirds: 1
- Top 10s: 6
- Top 25s: 15
- MC: 2 (Mickelson, FIO; Oosthuizen, SHO)
Last week: Jason Dufner (T-24; $54,020)
Garcia didn’t register and I breezed over Kuchar after a grind at THE PLAYERS. Luckily I left Leishman alone as he didn’t make the weekend but crowing about T-24 isn’t happening either. For those who didn’t burn Garcia he’ll be on the short list at Royal Troon and can even be put in moth balls until East Lake so don’t fret.
Thermometer:
Played defense and took another blah finish.
Keys this Week:
- Experience
- Augusta players
- Ball-striking
My Five Finalists:
1.) Jordan Spieth
2.) Adam Scott
3.) Charley Hoffman
4.) Matt Kuchar
5.) Kevin Chappell/Colt Knost
The Choice: Kevin Chappell
Close Second: Colt Knost
Long Shot Special: Boo Weekley
Verdict: If you’re desperate, Spieth or Scott will test your patience but the prize pool doesn’t do it for me. Those big boys will shine at the majors, WGC and playoffs where the prize pools are the deepest. Scott was T-12 at THE PLAYERS and made just over $212k; he’ll make $135k this week for T-12 (with three others). I’ve already burned Scott and Hoffman so I’m out there. Remember, Sergio Garcia was the last player to make Colonial their first win on Tour. Chappell could finish second again or Knost third and you wouldn’t care.
If you’re wondering why Chris Kirk isn’t on this list, it’s quite simple: Only Ben Hogan has defended here. And he did it twice. #StudHorse
If you’re wondering why Zach Johnson isn’t on this list just take a look at his current form.
Don’t forget Ryan Palmer who’s a member here and has a pair of top fives in the last four.
