2022 One and Done
Thanks for reading!
The purpose of this column is to free my mind and have some fun all while trying to find some winners.
From a transparency standpoint, most of my recent years are listed below so you can check how I’ve performed.
The price is the same as last year, ZERO, but my Venmo is @Mike-Glasscott if you would like to donate. You might even get your name on the column!
Sometimes we gotta look back before we look forward so I’ll post my thoughts from last week before breaking down the field this week.
Last Time – WM Phoenix Open
THE CHOICE: Hideki Matsuyama – T8
I would point out that he was my choice at ZOZO where he won last fall but Spotter’s game didn’t begin until he won at Sony in the first event of the season.
Details, details, details!
I gave you a pretty good haul at TPC Scottsdale and I should have after a lousy Pebble Beach. Nothing better than having the winner as well just too bad he wasn’t on my top line!
Congrats to Scottiesdale Scheffler on his first of many wins!
Warm Blankets: The guys who should. Safe selections that will help maintain leads. Opinions on why or why not for this event or save for later.
Jon Rahm: Best finish here is just T5 and he did it as a student at ASU. I’m saving him for bigger events but you gotta do you. Automatic top 10 weekly (T10) and this week wasn’t the exception. For whatever reason he never is in the mix here on Sunday.
Justin Thomas: Nothing worse than T17 here in seven tries and has no problem going low. 68-66 finish for T8 suggests he’s starting to bubble. Now it’s time to put four rounds together.
Jordan Spieth: If you think he’s fired up after his closing holes last week, please, go ahead. I’ll be there for Magnolia Lane or Colonial. Yeah, he’s pretty much a two course horse for me so I’ll get what I’ll get for saving him. T60.
Viktor Hovland: LOVES the desert and is shit fire hot with three wins from five worldwide. First appearance and big Bermuda greens isn’t the combo I need this week. MC. Didn’t like it from the word go.
Scottie Scheffler: Just hits it too well and the rust should be off after AMEX and Torrey Pines. T7 here last year. Fired 62 to get in the mix on Saturday. Closed with a bushel full of birdies to win the playoff Sunday. WINNER.
Matt Fitzpatrick: Desert dawg in the Middle East and popped another top 10 at Pebble Beach. Heat is heat. Followed up Pebble top 10 with another this week T10.
Spicy: This might be a week for sending out an “unknown” and saving a start. You just might get lucky. Or MC.
Brooks Koepka: Rolled in last year MC-MC-MC and won. Won twice in four visits but the other two are T40-somethings. Lovely risk reward. T3
Xander Schauffele: T2 last year but I can’t remember his last top 10 on TOUR. Now I’ll remember that it was T3 at WMPO!
Branden Grace: Two trips, a second and T9. T49
Louis Oosthuizen: Solo third and T11 in two starts but WD with a neck/back deal last time he was entered. Careful. No issues for T14. Probably will want to save him for St Andrews regardless.
Webb Simpson: Plenty of success here and TPC Summerlin suggests he’s LIVE this week. His recent results suggests looking elsewhere. Pre tournament WD.
Bubba Watson: He’s comfortable here, Riviera and Augusta. Choose wisely or not at all. Backed up his 2nd in the desert with T14 in his favorite desert.
3 AM at the Blackjack Table: Caution is thrown to the wind. Maybe not the best for this format but what the hell, right? Might throw these in if you’re in need of a miracle.
Adam Scott – T38, Andrew Putnam – MC, Wyndham Clark – MC, KH Lee – T38, Denny McCarthy – MC, Carlos Ortiz -T33

This Week – The Genesis Invitational
Please read Horses for Courses and Expert Picks if you need more ideas!
THE CHOICE: Patrick Cantlay
I was going to save him for a major but there will be plenty of qualified to take his place. I’m riding the heat wave that he’s created over the last month and hoping he gets it over the finish line this week. I can EASILY make the argument that he should have won the last two weeks but will happily enjoy being on board at the right moment THIS week.
Four trips to Riviera the last four years = 24-under with his worst round 72. He won the ZOZO at Sherwood in 2020 in his backyard and is ready to add to the collection. SoCal in a SoCal event should be more than comfortable and ready to kick down the 2022 door.
Warm Blankets: The guys who should. Safe selections that will help maintain leads. Opinions on why or why not for this event or save for later.
Dustin Johnson: He is THE course horse this week. Loves hanging with the in-laws but loves The Riv even more. He can fall out of bed and contend here.
Hideki Matsuyama: I’ve seen nothing to suggest he’s slowing down or getting off track. I like him more on Poa/Bent than Bermuda.
Xander Schauffele: SoCal loves SoCal and his bounce back last week at WMPO suggests he’s about to turn it up.
Justin Thomas: Should feel he’s owed one here after 2019. Only finish outside the top 10 recently was at Torrey, a place he rarely plays.
Jon Rahm: I’ll put him in every week because he commands that respect.
Spicy: This might be a week for sending out an “unknown” and saving a start. You just might get lucky. Or MC.
Collin Morikawa: When he’s a choice down here you know it’s a deeeeeep field! Hasn’t cracked the code here just yet but it shouldn’t take many more loops.
Adam Scott: All time money leader at the event still has plenty of pop in his bat. Knocked the jet lag off last week at WMPO and should be ready for a big week in the Santa Monica canyon.
Rory McIlroy: If I knew he was playing Bay Hill, I might do that instead. I know he’s playing TPC Sawgrass so I might do that also.
Matt Fitzpatrick: Hard to knock a guy off who enters on back to back top 10s. No problem finding the sprinkler line and putting on Poa.
Max Homa: It’s his Masters, his Open, whatever you want to put in here. Backed up his T5 in 2020 with a victory last year and found something last week at WMPO. If the pressure didn’t get to him last year…
3 AM at the Blackjack Table: Caution is thrown to the wind. Maybe not the best for this format but what the hell, right? Might throw these in if you’re in need of a miracle.

2018-19
My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.
Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
