OAD: BMW Championship

Finally, it’s over.

My grand plan to storm the leaderboard starting at The Open and carrying into the FedExCup Playoffs was a dud.

Throwing the line in the water one last time this season for the game I’m playing.

2020-2021 OAD

50 events, the most since the mid-70s, will give us plenty of time for strategy, strength and disaster.

Remember, if you don’t like it, you get DOUBLE YOUR MONEY BACK!

Last Week – FedExCup Playoffs Event No. 1

THE NORTHERN TRUST

Tony Finau finally returns to the winner’s circle after almost 2,000 days as he defeats Cameron Smith in a playoff.

I don’t think I’ve ever had Finau available, EVER, after the West Coast swing but those of you who had him laying around, bravo.

THE CHOICE: Harris English – T31

As I’ve told you, I’m saving Bryson DeChambeau for Caves Valley next week so yeah.

After a near-miss at the US Open at Torrey Pines English humped it across country and won The Travelers in Connecticut for his second win on the season. I’m hoping a return to the East Coast after a tough Sunday in Memphis is the perfect tonic again.

The Open Championship (T46) is the only payday outside the top four in his last four starts worldwide so I might have fallen perfectly into my own trap.

He also needs a big Playoff push to get into the Ryder Cup.

LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOO*

*I have no chance of winning anything in my OAD league so be aware haha*

My season in a nut shell.

Can’t catch the lightning.

If you’re wondering how difficult Liberty National is for the top players, the answer is NOT VERY. English racked all four rounds 70 or better and all that got him was T31 and not even $50k.

The top 26 players were 10-under or better.

English was 8-under just like DeChambeau so whatever.

Safety Dance:

Adam Scott: 2013 winner and solo fifth in 2019. Never MC here in three tries and played the Presidents Cup. He’s MC now after his four-under start was wiped out by his four over Friday.  Amazing.

Any player ranked in the OWGR Top 10: There are only three events left. #Math. Only Jon Rahm and JT would have helped you this week. Savage.

Abraham Ancer: I can see how some of you might have him left. VAMOS AF! T64 AF.

Patrick Cantlay: Bent Bent Bent. All four rounds in the 60s and still doesn’t hit the top 10 (T11). Hahahahha.

Scottie Scheffler: New tracks haven’t bothered him a bit over the last 18 months. All four rounds of 70 or better and T43.

Joaquin Niemann: Might have him lying around? Maybe? Closed with 72 playing lift, clean and replace for T47.

Spicy: If you’re chasing…

Kevin Kisner: One Adam Scott missed 4 footer put him in the Ryder Cup conversation. Back-t0-back wins/podiums might put him on the team. Dream is probably dead with MC this week.

Russell Henley: Too many close ones but seems to be lurking constantly. T56 zero threat.

Jason Kokrak: T12 and T9 his last two here but his form is quiet. MC 70-72.

Ian Poulter: When he makes the cut, he’s hit the top 10 twice. Probably should move him up. T31 after opening with a round over par.

Kevin Streelman: Another lover of bentgrass and East Coast golf. T64, like the author of this column, running out of gas after a 50-event (to be) season.

Jhonattan Vegas: 2017 Presidents Cupper who is shit fire hot. I mean, I’ve swung and missed on just about everything this week.

Si Woo Kim: Riding heat > hoping a guy breaks out against a monster field. MC.

3 AM at the Blackjack Table:

Gary Woodland – 2nd to last, Jason Day – MC, Roger Sloan – MC, Cameron Champ – WRONG CAMERON, Maverick McNealy – T27.

This Week – FedExCup Playoffs Event No. 2

BMW Championship

Gas tank is empty folks.

Last week I could have rolled with Hoge (T4), Noren (T4), Erik van Rooyen (7th), Keith Mitchell (T8), Kevin Na (T8), Keegan Bradley (T11) or Shane Lowry (T13).

Nope.

One last roll of the dice.

THE CHOICE: Bryson DeChambeau

This has been the plan all along so why deviate from it?

General Custer once remarked, MAN, THAT’S A SHIT TON OF INDIANS, so I get it.

Big, big ballpark, read more in Horses for Courses, for him to swing it and make a buncha birdies ok.

If not, he’ll at least be limbering up for the world’s longest drive contest…

LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOO*

*I have no chance of winning anything in my OAD league so be aware haha*

Safety Dance:

There is no longer safety.

Play the best, hottest available.

Spicy: If you’re chasing…

Last week we saw plenty of dudes from down the board make waves but it was still a premium player, although short in career wins, take the top spot.

Kevin Na: Pegging top 10s for fun all of a sudden, ride that hot.

Cam Davis: Gotta have a bomber or two, right?

Any of the guys I highlighted last week: I’ve been a day late and a dollar short all year. It’s still bent. It’s still lengthy. It’s still tough greens to hit.

3 AM at the Blackjack Table:

Talor Gooch, Harry Higgs, Maverick McNealy, Cameron Tringale,

2018-19

My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.

Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
