That pesky Jordan Spieth meddled in the CHARLEY HOFFMAN OPEN and stole over 500k from my pick!
It was nice to have a look on the back nine on Sunday for the first time in a long time.
Having the winner and second place makes up for a quiet week in the other parts!
THE CHOICE: Charley Hoffman
Does what he usually does here and that’s play great. Too bad Jordan Spieth showed up as Jordan Spieth this week as those two separated themselves from the rest of the proceedings.
I will admit it was pleasurable NOT SHARING SECOND PLACE and pocketing the full prize to myself.
Felt like a winner!

Ryan Palmer: Form has been outstanding and he didn’t have to battle 7 matches in the wind last week. Very solid T17.
Jordan Spieth: Next week folks but great players just don’t turn it on and off. He’s playing well and this field is a bit different than the one at Augusta. Congrats to the winners this week! T5 were NINE SHOTS back.
Scottie Scheffler: Young Texan gave Billy Horschel a run while knocking out Ian Poulter and Jon Rahm along the way. T20 on debut provides a footing. T54 as his wildly uneven play continues. No more “safety” anything hahaha.
Spicy:
Abraham Ancer: Home game and looking for his first win on TOUR. Interesting combo. T23 is his best start in four in San Antonio.
Brendan Steele: Won his first TOUR event here in 2021 and has been playing great as of late. Twitter got hacked. Finished second to last. But made the weekend in his ninth straight event on TOUR.
Branden Grace: Proven wind player as recently demonstrated by his victory in Puerto Rico. Late arrival to the party at T23 with his best rounds the final two.

This Week – 85th Masters Tournament
THE CHOICE: Jordan Spieth
Last week confirms what SPIETH NATION was hoping in the drive to Magnolia Lane: It’s happening again.
Evidence was presented multiple times this winter and early spring and the payoff came last week under the gun against course horse Charley Hoffman.
I would have been skeptical if he won by 5 or 6 and just had to walk it in. That was hardly the case as he was forced to execute shots down the stretch and remember that feeling.
He loves Augusta. He loves the artistry required and greens that run pure. His confidence won’t be an issue and he knows how to close the deal here and exactly NOT what to do on Sunday as well.

Jon Rahm: Baby is here, clear mind, no worries, freedom.
Dustin Johnson: Won’t care or remember what happened in November. He doesn’t work that way; he just cashes big checks in big events.
Justin Thomas: I don’t know how the Tiger absence helps but if he’s winning one for The Gipper…
Cameron Smith: Big bump this week. He’s lightly raced and should be fresh. He’s hit the top five here in April and November so like DJ, he shouldn’t be bothered. Plenty of pop and a fantastic short game.
Spicy:
Rory McIlroy: PRESSURE? WHAT PRESSURE???? This will be attempt No. 7 at the career grand slam.
Paul Casey: Form is outstanding and has plenty of great memories walking around here.
Xander Schauffele: I love him on fast and firm. His FORM is the concern.
Patrick Reed: Probably should be higher up the list as he’s in form and has one jacket already in the closet.
Sergio Garcia: Comfortable in his own skin and life, I saw what I needed to see at TPC Sawgrass.
Patrick Cantlay: All the tools in the tool box and was one who briefly held the lead last time in Spring.

2018-19
My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.
Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
