Welcome aboard!

If you’re new or curious or both, my entire archive is on the website. Go back and figure out what you want or need or ignore it completely.

Each week I’ll post the folks I believe will make some noise in different categories.

Remember, if you don’t like it, you get DOUBLE YOUR MONEY BACK!

Last Week – The American Express

Scottie Scheffler – MC

Wrong course horse. Wrong guy in form.

Wrong guy.

Streak is gone but another streak sadly continues.

Time to get back at it this week.

Let’s see how the rest of my selections held up.

Safety Dance:

Players in here will appear obvious until I explain why they might not be. Remember “one” means ONCE, not again down the road.

Patrick Cantlay – 2nd: Posted the course record BY TWO SHOTS in the final round and missed the playoff by one. He loves desert golf, period.

Abraham Ancer – T5: The last two Sundays at this event he’s posted the co-course record in 2020 (63) and 66 this time around. I shot him at Mayakoba. I have REGRETS.

Tony Finau – 4th: He played in the final group, shot 68 and missed the podium. Brutal to watch those stats fly across the screen on Sunday about how long and how many top 10s since that win in Puerto Rico.

Patrick Reed – MC: Opened with 68 on the Stadium Course and looked poised to contend. His 75 on the easier of the two courses was hard to stomach for gamers.

Spicy:

Matthew Wolff – T40: He’s in the spicy category still because he’s still a kid. That’s ok.

Adam Hadwin – T32: Posted a pair of 66s but it wasn’t enough to wipe out two rounds in the 70s. The fear was his current form. The fear was real.

Sungjae Im – T12: In three visits here it’s T12-T10-T12 so he’s on this list as long as he plays.

Phil Mickelson – MC: 74 on the easiest course on TOUR this year followed by 18 pars on the Stadium Course. Pay your money, take your chances.

3 AM at the Blackjack Table:

Adam Long – 69, nice, Aaron Wise – MC, Sepp Straka – MC, Wyndham Clark – T54, Maverick McNealy – Last.

This Week – Farmers Insurance Open

THE CHOICE:  Marc Leishman

Won’t have any problem defending as he’s been there, done that. Brewing at Augusta. Simmering at Kapalua. Contending at Waialae. Trying to catch him as the heat reaches WHITE HOT. He’s also cashed in 10 of 12 and finished second twice. Box office.

Safety Dance:

Players in here will appear obvious until I explain why they might not be. Remember “one” means ONCE, not again down the road.

Jon Rahm: I burned him at a major. I have to live with that.

Rory McIlroy: Nothing outside T5 in two visits and led after 54 holes last week at Abu Dhabi.

Tony Finau: Worst finish here in six is T24; T13 or better with three top 10s the last four.

Jason Day: New clubs, new coach, big ballpark to work out the kinks. He’s won twice since 2015 and gets up and down from everywher.

Spicy:

Charles Howell III: He’s never missed. Ever. 17-17. That’ valuable if you’re looking to save a start and he does what he normally do.

Xander Schauffele: The form is what brought you to this selection. The course history for the local might push you away: T25 and four MC from five starts.

Adam Scott: Showed up two years ago for the first time and finished second. Doesn’t need to make 400 feet of putts to content this week.

Bubba Watson: Never a big fan of his if rain is in the forecast but there was a reason he came back last year (T6)for the first time since 2014. When Bubba is engaged, I’m engaged. I’d save him for Riviera or Scottsdale though.

3 AM at the Blackjack Table:

Jason Kokrak, Ryan Palmer, Gary Woodland, Harry Higgs, Corey Conners, Cameron Tringale

Good Luck!

2018-19

My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.

Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
