From the hilly walk on the former pineapple plantation to the flat, windy beaches of Oahu, Week 2 of the Hawaiian Swing takes place at Waialae Country Club. Cameron Smith will look to join a very rare club of those winning both legs in the same season.

Welcome aboard!
If you’re new or curious or both, my entire archive is on the website. Go back and figure out what you want or need or ignore it completely.
Each week I’ll post the folks I believe will make some noise in different categories.
Remember, if you don’t like it, you get DOUBLE YOUR MONEY BACK!
Last Week – Sentry Tournament of Champions
Same shit, different calendar year.
Woo. Hoo.
Again, I hope you read to the end. That seems to be where I make my best picks.
THE CHOICE: Cameron Smith – T24
Good luck mullet my arse. Didn’t expect half of his rounds to lose strokes on the greens. Missed it by a mile, just like I have 11 of 13 other times.
Safety Dance:
Players in here will appear obvious until I explain why they might not be. Remember “one” means ONCE, not again down the road.
Dustin Johnson – T11: Spotted the field a couple of shots with 71 in Round 1 while knocking off GREEN JACKET RUST. It’s news when he doesn’t cash a top 10 here but 18-under doesn’t suggest any trouble moving forward.
Justin Thomas – 3rd: I suggested last week that investors wouldn’t be terribly disappointed at the end of play. Solo third is great but pulling the trigger on JT for less than half a million is suboptimal. Classic good news bad news.
Patrick Reed – T21: Only three back after 36, I thought he would be primed for a weekend chase. Nope. Failed to break 70 on the weekend.
Spicy:
Xander Schauffele – T5: Yes, beware the injured/sick golfer! I took him out of my lineup on Expert Picks at the last minute and, well never mind. Another limited field, another top five finish. Believe.
Bryson DeChambeau – T7: Only made two bogeys on the week so T7 is surprising. All top 10s are NOT created equal.
Hideki Matsuyama – T-DFL: Make it 84 events worldwide he hasn’t lifted the trophy. DFL isn’t T4 or better, is it? Surprised I didn’t go with him…
Webb Simpson – T17: Yep, 16-under gets you a share of T17 when the weather is perfect! The 22 birdies and one eagle suggests a big week at Waialae. It was the six bogeys and a double that stymied him at Kapalua.
3 AM at the Blackjack Table:
Adam Scott – T21, Harris English – WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER, Sungjae Im – T5, Cameron Champ – T31
This Week – Sony Open in Hawaii
Get Horsed for Coursed HERE.
THE CHOICE: Daniel Berger
It’s Bermuda, it’s tight off the tee and birdies are required.
Good combo platter for Berger.
He’s won twice at a difficult driving TPC Southwind, a tight Colonial and contended at a short TPC River Highlands.
Should be properly pissed off he didn’t give it a go last week after sitting just four back in fourth after 54 holes.
Save him for TPC Southwind but remember that’s a MUCH MUCH deeper WGC field.
Safety Dance:
Webb Simpson: We’ve been over this A LOT. But he loves going low, Bermuda and making tons of birdies.
Sungjae Im: Matter of preference and field this week. He plays all the time so his value might be in even weaker fields. Up to you.
Harris English: Shit fire hot. Not too many win back to back weeks but there’s nothing to suggest he won’t give it another run.
Charles Howell III: If you just can’t crack the code this week, lean on the guy who has never missed in 19 tries. I’ll point out he’s never won either.
Players in here will appear obvious until I explain why they might not be. Remember “one” means ONCE, not again down the road.
Spicy:
Ryan Palmer: 44444. Ready? Last two finishes on TOUR? T4, T4. Age? 44. Last year? T4.
Kevin Kisner: I love him on short, tight, Bermuda tracks where putting matters. This week qualifies easily.
Collin Morikawa: Starting to get more comfy on Bermuda but it’s his tee-to-green expertise that interest me most.
Billy Horschel: Top 10 at Mayakoba is usually a precursor for top success here. Was flying last week at Kapalua before blowing a tire on Sunday.
3 AM at the Blackjack Table:
Emiliano Grillo, Matt Kuchar, Brian Stuard, Lanto Griffin
Good Luck!

2018-19
My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.
Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
