Big, bad Winged Foot will host for the sixth time.
Event No. 2 of the season will require a maximum player so I better get it right!

Welcome aboard!
If you’re new or curious or both, my entire archive is on the website. Go back and figure out what you want or need or ignore it completely.
Each week I’ll post the folks I believe will make some noise in different categories.
Remember, if you don’t like it, you get DOUBLE YOUR MONEY BACK!
Last Week – Safeway Open
THE CHOICE: Brendan Steele
Opened with 65, just two back, AND HERE WE GO!!!
And then didn’t break 69 the rest of the week and added two rounds in the 70s.
Hey, it’s not a MC.
Nobody had Stewie Cink or Very Harry Higgs so that’s good.
Not being eliminated on Week No. 1 will do great for what’s left of my confidence.
Safety Dance:
Players in here will appear obvious until I explain why they might not be. Remember “one” means ONCE, not again down the road.
Phil Mickelson: T44 – Hit it all over the shop, which can happen here, and never factored. Made cut was the upside.
Si Woo Kim: T44 – Bit tough here as he was 9-under heading into the weekend before a 77 snapped it off. Closing 66 stung when you take 77 out…
Chez Reavie: T3 – Never missed here and that continues and he adds to it his best of the bunch. Proper.
Harold Varner III: T29 – Nice 66 in the final round to move it on up for a few more bucks. Worst finish in his last four at Safeway.
Spicy:
Maverick McNealy: MC -Tough to shoot 4-under and go home early. He’s playing well.
Mark Hubbard: MC – Tough to open with 68 and go home on 3-under but that’s what happened.
Cameron Davis: T36 – Rounds in the 70s weren’t good this week and he had two of them. 12-under was only good for T36 on an easy week. Would have loved to have known it was playing easy this week!
Joel Dahmen: T58 – Dots were connected but three rounds in the 70s showed up instead.
3 AM at the Blackjack Table:
Tyler Duncan: MC – Crashed, burned at 1-over.
Kristoffer Ventura: T7 – Best finish on this TOUR and helped in my weekly game.
Will Gordon: T61 – Made it on the number and stalled out on the weekend.
Martin Laird: MC – 68-75. Night and day.
This Week – 120th US Open
THE CHOICE: Jon Rahm
Winning major No. 1 is never easy but I can’t figure out too many times when he’s been bothered by courses, fields or expectations. There aren’t many, if any, holes in his game and the fiercer the course, the fiercer the competitor he becomes.
The only question most have about the Spaniard is the fire that burns and how he controls it. That question, in my opinion, will be answered in full this week at Winged Foot.
Safety Dance:
Players in here will appear obvious until I explain why they might not be. Remember “one” means ONCE, not again down the road.
Dustin Johnson: Matter of preference, that’s it. Plenty of uses down the road haha.
Xander Schauffele: Fantastic record here in the last three years, his ONLY three years, all T6 or better.
Bryson DeChambeau: Might be stretching here just a bit but I prefer his acumen on the greens to those around him. Remember, it’s a test of everything this week.
Spicy:
Rory McIlroy: Hasn’t won one of these in six years but it’s not the career grand slam on the line like it will be at the next two Masters.
Justin Thomas: All the tools and pieces but it just feels off for me this week. Too many moving parts.
Tony Finau: Yep, doesn’t win enough, you’re right. He also bangs it in major championships.
Jason Day: Hasn’t won since 2018 so he’ll cruise in comfortably under the radar. Should be a few eyeballs on him come Sunday.
Patrick Reed: Love the Augusta/Tillinghast connection. Definitely included somewhere.
3 AM at the Blackjack Table:
Louis Oosthuizen: Never know where to use him when St Andrew’s isn’t on the menu. Check his last five US Open starts.
Harris English: Playing great but again, wins are hard to come by at this level for most.
Chez Reavie: Comes in hot and nobody will ask him one question about anything this week.
Mackenzie Hughes: Big courses = big money in the restart.
Kevin Streelman: Hot, loves this part of the world and bentgrass.
Good Luck!

2018-19
My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.
Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
