Last Week – TOUR Championship
Most, if not ALL, OAD games have ignored the final tournament of the year because of the bonus payout program. The only reason I mention this is to make sure you know all the rules for your league before you save Xander Schauffele for an event that doesn’t exist.
This Week – Safeway Open
THE CHOICE: Brendan Steele
Two time winner, check. West Coast guy, check. Ball-striker, check. Won’t use him down the road, check.
Sometimes this game can come easy. Some weeks I struggle to narrow it down.
Safety Dance:
Players in here will appear obvious until I explain why they might not be. Remember “one” means ONCE, not again down the road.
Phil Mickelson: Here’s an example. If you’re riding his hot streak of one, party one. There are a few more tracks he has better history on than his one. Actually, quite a few, but that doesn’t mean he can’t win this week. I’m not sure if he’ll play an event with a weaker field this year.
Si Woo Kim: The other co-favorite this week is on a heater upon arrival. As a former winner, he won’t be bothered come Sunday. Don’t look at Wyndham…
Chez Reavie: Some people view this week as survive and advance and I don’t blame them. Reavie has never MC here and should keep that streak alive.
Harold Varner III: Without a win on TOUR I’m not sure he qualifies for safety but his track record suggests he won’t be out of place. Grillo and Tway were also first timers here recently.
Spicy:
Maverick McNealy: Home game, Poa game.
Mark Hubbard: Sagarin rankings highest rated player in the field.
Cameron Davis: Checks all the boxes, similar to Champ last year.
Joel Dahmen: Chugging along and very familiar around Poa.
3 AM at the Blackjack Table:
Tyler Duncan: Almost went wire-to-wire in 2018.
Kristoffer Ventura: Doesn’t care what TOUR he’s putting up solid numbers weekly.
Will Gordon: Speaking of Champ Junior, also hits it a ton and has been fearless on TOUR so far.
Martin Laird: Not sure he has enough reps to flip the switch this week but loves California/Nevada golf.

2018-19
My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.
Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
