Welcome aboard!
If you need more explanations, please go back and read last week or the week of Sentry. I’m trying to streamline this for the degenerates who want the pick NOW NOW NOW.
Last Week: Farmers Insurance Open
THE PICK: Tony Finau – T6
At least my season top-10 paydays > MC finally!
As for my WIN total, shut up.
The big hitter continues his automatic selection at the longest track on TOUR but again didn’t take home the big prize. I’ll save my tears for later when he breaks through. Oh, and I had Leishman in this spot the last time he started (Sony; Gino’s Game) so don’t think for one minute I’m happy hahaha.
This seems to be another event (Kapalua) that I have under control, minus Rose and Woodland but it’s hard to be disappointed below.
Safety Dance:
Justin Rose: From almost setting the tournament record in 2019 to MC in 2020. Fantasy fucking golf, eh?
Rory McIlroy – T3: Yeah, like every week.
Tiger Woods – T9: Don’t worry, he has a similar record at Bay Hill and Augusta.
Jon Rahm – 2nd: Just brutal as he led after 54 holes but just a nip over $800k should make you feel better.
Spicy:
Gary Woodland – MC: Woof. Didn’t fire on the North after digging that hole on the South. I’m not sure, major championship or not, he’s in THE category yet.
Charles Howell III: Pre-tournament WD that I somehow missed!
Jason Day – T16: Excellent 69 saved blushes for those getting started early on the Aussie after his back injury.
Brandt Snedeker – T3: Automatic here in every format besides this one.
Keegan Bradley – T16: Another very solid result. Still gotta hole some putts! Can he scramble with Day?
3AM at the Blackjack Table:
Scottie Scheffler – MC, Cameron Champ – T16, Joel Dahmen – T55, Talor Gooch – T36
THIS WEEK- Waste Management Phoenix Open
The column above goes into greater detail on what I believe it’s going to take to win this week and obviously that influences what I write below:
THE PICK
Hideki Matsuyama (Gino’s Game): Yeah, obvious, eh?
Bubba Watson (Spotter’s Game): Getting Bubba when he’s in the mood is important. Great week last week and a super history here. The Travelers is no longer the layup it used to be as that field swells annually.
Safety Dance:
Jon Rahm: Right, you just pick the correct week (read: every week you should be great ) to secure the W. Again, I have bigger plans.
Webb Simpson: No concerns with anything here. Matter of preference.
Justin Thomas: I’m going with a bigger prize pool (WGC, Major).
Rickie Fowler: Can’t miss, right?
Spicy:
Bryson DeChambeau: Went close last week in the desert; won at TPC Summerlin.
Matt Kuchar: Plenty of top 10s but no wins here. You’ll have multiple times to break him out, don’t worry.
Ryan Moore: I like desert dogs this week and that was my tiebreaker. He easily qualifies.
Branden Grace: Didn’t have any problem on debut last year (second) and won three weeks ago.
Ben An: He has issues on Sunday here but he was in a place on the leaderboard that made those a big deal.
3AM at the Blackjack Table:
Daniel Berger, Chez Reavie, Charley Hoffman, Tom Hoge
Check out my previous results below if you need a history lesson:
History Channeled:
2018-19
My majors contributions and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.
Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
