OAD: Valero Texas Open 2019

Giddy up!

My OAD nag is heading to the GLUE FACTORY if we don’t get this season turned around shortly!

Local and 2015 champ Jimmy Walker should be on your radar this week if you’re looking to make up ground.

One and Done

Each week I’ll throw in my thoughts on the field and those to back and avoid in this wonderful format.

Damn near DFL and I couldn’t be HAPPIER!

I don’t mind this at all. I hate grinding all day Friday to have a guy three jack from 8 feet to miss. This is proper. Captain America indeed! HUGH ESSAY HUGH ESSAY HUGH ESSAY!!!

Spicy: Ryan Moore – MC, Keith Mitchell – DNS, Adam Hadwin – MC

Picks for Dreamers: Jim Furyk – T18, Kevin Kisner – T24, Jason Kokrak – T2, Lucas Glover – T13

Picks for Noses: Bubba Watson (not with Augusta, Travelers) – T4, Dustin Johnson (any week when the prize pool is greater than $9 million) – T6, Henrik Stenson (form) – T24.

Six Beers In: J.T. Poston – MC, Sungjae Im – T4, Kelly Kraft – T46

WGC-MATCH PLAY

Winner: Paul Casey

I’m never crazy about this format because of the difficulty it is just to get through the group phase.

I did bag the two finalists in my bracket but had BOTH OF THEM losing in the semis and playing for third! Getting half of the final four in this format is impossible so I’m going to hurt my shoulder patting myself on the back.

This Week

On a track that rarely plays easy, Andrew Landry rolled into town last April and turned in the tournament record for his first TOUR win. Of the previous nine winners four have been first-timers on TOUR. Kevin Chappell, Charley Hoffman and Jimmy Walker had barrels of success before they finally broke through. Even Martin Laird had a T9 before his win in 2013.

TPC San Antonio usually is at the mercy of the wind and weather but this week looks to be nice. That should, by default, make the fairways even wider and scoring even easier. The rough is only two inches and the greens only run 11′ on the Stimp so playing the “conditions” shouldn’t be the issue.

Check my preview here for more details.

My Choice: Billy Horschel

Picks for Noses: Rickie Fowler (no form, never played the event), Jordan Spieth (Masters or bust right now),

Six Beers In: Ryan Palmer, Sungjae Im, Kelly Kraft
