Shriners Hospitals for Children Open OAD

11.01.17

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Whew.

Great quote, great movie and sums up my last few weeks.

I looked around just in time to file this for YOU.

Yes, you!

One-and-done

Each week I painfully writhe and wretch trying to figure out the proper strategy to find a player that will hit the top 10. Wins are great but aren’t likely, so I’m satisfied with having a chance to hit the big money. Missed cuts are absolutely the death in this game, but even the surest of things don’t always happen in the reality world of fantasy golf.

Remember, fade or follow, it’s up to you.

Gamers who are new to OAD must remember that the most lucrative purses, the majors, WGC events, THE PLAYERS and FedExCup Playoffs, are down the road and you’ll need to save some big boys for these events, all 13 of them (CJ CUP).

Thermometer:

It snowed in Bloomington this morning.

I’m pretty sure my OAD picks from the last two weeks were the reason why…

Safeway — Tony Finau, 2nd.

CIMB — Paul Casey, T-7.

CJ CUP — Keegan Bradley, T-47.

WGC-HSBC Champions — Hideki Matsuyama, T-50

Last week:

WGC-HSBC Champions

My Weekly Finalists:

My Choice: Hideki Matsuyama — T-50

Close Second: Marc Leishman — T-38

Outliers: Ross Fisher — T-58, Tyrell Hatton — T-11, Matthew Fitzpatrick — T-9

Gut Shot(s): Francesco Molinari — T-46

Rank Outsider(s): Kyle Stanley — T-5, Patrick Cantlay — T-15

I have a sinking feeling that I’m going to seriously regret the Matsuyama pick. I hate when my rank outsiders outperform the entire group. For those of you who enjoy the long shots, you’re welcome!

Keys this Week:

Get lucky!

Haha, but seriously, the last three winners have all raised eyebrows for one reason or another. All three have also posted 18-under-par or better and shot 62 or lower.

Good luck picking the one that’s going to do that.

As most of you know, I’m now on board at PGATOUR.COM and here’s my maiden voyage.

You should find some helpful hints in here to navigate you through this week.

Don’t forget to check Rob Bolton’s Power Rankings as well.

As I get more comfortable with my new duties, I hope to get back to writing previews for each event.

You do you.

I’ll do me.

We can learn from each other.

My Weekly Finalists:

My Choice: Patrick Cantlay

Close Second: Webb Simpson, Ryan Moore

Outliers: Luke List, Chesson Hadley, Harris English

Gut Shot(s): Jamie Lovemark

Rank Outsider(s): Patton Kizzire, Martin Laird

QUESTION(S) OF THE WEEK:

The winner this week will be…

With the fans on this week and the usual benign conditions not being the case, I’m going to lean on ball-strikers. Those who paint the most GIR will have an advantage.

No Vegas guys?

There are plenty to choose from this week. City/university affiliation cuts both ways as Ryan Moore plays well here and Charley Hoffman frankly does not. Maybe that has Moore to do with Hoffman hosting the Pro-Am. See what I did there?

If your lean is on locals, who’s going to win at the Honda then? Only about 500,309 pros live in that area!

Should I avoid players who played in Asia?

I don’t think it’s a mandatory OMIT, no. Will they be tired? Will they be mentally spent? Beware the tired/injured golfer, I say!

Sanderson Farms Recap:

My Weekly Finalists:

My Choice: Chesson Hadley — T-2

Close Second: Jason Kokrak — T-7, Andrew Landry — T-58

Outliers: Tyler Duncan — MC, Bronson Burgoon — WD, Brice Garnett — T-43

Gut Shot(s): Austin Cook — T-25

Rank Outsider(s): Hunter Mahan — T-18, Blayne Barber — MC, Sam Burns — T-43

Good luck!
