Steam-rolled into the top 100 after a big week last week at the FIO.
Different onions this week as the full scoring system is back in place.
PGA Tour Fantasy Golf Game
Each week, I’ll trot out guys who I believe who fit the course, the game and the road map, plus add some substitutes. Four starters are supported by two bench players each week. Remember, once a player tees off in your lineup he burns a start, so make sure you need to sub out instead of want to sub out.
You’ll learn a few things about me each week in this column.
Games, like this one, that involve daily substitution options, I am terrible at playing.
I’ll give you my best four starters and two bench options but it’s up to you to outguess me on which rounds they should sit or play.
Last Week — Farmers Insurance Open
- Tournament Points: 488
- Tournament Rank: 866
- Season Points: 8,872
- Season Rank: 64th
With scoring as the only metric in use, I left Jason Day on the bench and abandoned ship on Jimmy Walker for Brendan Steele after one round. Charles Howell, III (T-2), Brandt Snedeker (T-9), Brendan Steele (T-20) and Gary Woodland (T-20) did the business but less than stellar finishes from Sneds and Woodland prevented me from a monster.
I’m back in the top 100 for the first time in a while so I have that going for me.
Which is nice.
With nine events remaining including this week, roster management will come solidly into play. Also, this week we return to the regular scoring metric that takes into every facet of the game so make sure your lineup has a bit of balance to it.
TPC Scottsdale will have perfect weather this week so there won’t be any excuses about draws, waves or elements. Find guys who can shorten the course (ball-strikers) to rack up birdie chances and sprinkle in a few plodders who play on the sprinkler line and can hole a few putts.
With the two glaring exceptions of Mark Wilson and Hunter Mahan, it has been power players in the winner’s circle over the last decade. With the course playing under 7,300 yards in perfect conditions, this has the all the makings of a shootout. Fasten your seatbelt and pick well!
