Three of my four selections slammed the trunk early last week but…

Rank: 6,031 ($1,116,000)
Had three of four MC but the one who didn’t, the BIG ONE, WON the tournament. Whew. I’m still wondering why I went against my No. 1 in the rankings Patrick Reed (solo second) and settled for Jimmy Walker (MC). DeChambeau proved he is, in fact, human and Si Woo Kim reminded me that 20-year old kids can be inconsistent. Gotta learn to live!
This Week
Group 1: Jason Day
Group 2: Daniel Berger
Group 3: Boo Weekley
Group 4: Luke List
Total Birdies: 25
Group 1: I’m not sure if it’s easier or harder to have a one-in-three chance to get this right. With Day, Fowler and Rose and the three choices, I’ll take the guy who made the most birdies here last year. The defending champs’ curse is REEL and Fowler is returning from #sb2k16 or something. I’ll take the cold blooded killer of the group who’s won a ton in the last year.
Group 2: Took all of my strength to put Berger in here over Kirk but I did it. Kaufman is an interesting first-timer this week and Lovemark is the perfect hidden gem down at the bottom.
Group 3: Going with the veteran here who knows his way around TPC Louisiana. Hearn, Hoffmann and Barnes could make excellent others. I’m leaning on the guy who’s 41-under the last three years and finished T-6, T-29 and solo third in that run.
Group 4: It’s funny that the GC.com’s algorithm can’t figure out where to put some of the Kims (Si Woo is No. 143 and should be in Group 3 this week; Whee is No. 300) or S.Y. Noh (No. 239, should be in Group 3) so there’s value there as Noh is a former champion. I’ve gone with a young bomber on a wet course with easy greens. He’s also made six of his last seven cuts T-39 or better.
