Thoughts on Chalk (odds via Bet365.com)

Sam Burns (+1600): This is a steep number for a fella who has not won since 2023 and in an event where four previous winners have been 100-1 or better. Burns owns T7 and T12 on this track and never missed the weekend.

Maverick McNealy (+1800): T3 in 2024 after T16 on debut in 2021. Six top-10 results in 2025. Solid through the bag.

Chris Gotterup (+2500): Doubled his career earnings in a fortnight across the pond. Led the field in Par-5 scoring at Royal Portrush. The Par-71 at TPC Twin Cities will provide three more Par-5 chances, but these are 593 yards or more.

Wyndham Clark (+2500): T17-T11-T4 in his last three suggests he’s in the mood. T5 in 2019.

Michael Thorbjornsen (+2800): T4-T21-T14 in his last three on TOUR. If Detroit is the comparison, he ran T4 in the Motor City. He eats off the tee and that plays this week. The only non-winner at the top of the board.

Akshay Bhatia (+3000): The last time he found the top 10 was another water-logged layout, TPC Sawgrass (T3). Making his second visit, he sits 16th in SG: Approach and 21st SG: Putting. Nice combo.

Jake Knapp (+3000): T27 or better, including T4 at Detroit, in his last four. DNS Open Championship.

I’m digging deeper this week. Find a ball-striker who is 100-1 or worse and take a chance. This event rarely makes sense!

Others for Top 10, Top 20, or Top 40 action not mentioned in my columns (Odds Outlook & Horses for Courses) at PGATOUR.com

Tony Finau (+4000) flashed early last week at Royal Portrush and absolutely eats at TPC Twin Cities. … Kevin Yu (+5000) continues to chop wood. … Sam Stevens (+6600) and Alex Noren (+8000) are an interesting duo who can handle the breeze. … Tom Hoge (+8000) is a North Dakota native and has won plenty in the state of Minnesota. … Henrik Norlander and Max Herendeen should be around for the weekend. … Chan Kim went close in Kentucky. … Philip Knowles perhaps.

LAST WEEK – The Open Championship

THE CHOICE: Shane Lowry – T40

Bad plan. Bad execution.

Whiffed on Schauffele and Hatton.

Last four weeks have knocked me out of contention!

THIS Week – 3M Open

THE CHOICE: Wyndham Clark

I have an embarrassment of riches for the last three events. Imagine not using Sam Burns, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, or Justin Thomas! Or Chris Gotterup, Maverick McNealy, Tony Finau, or Harris English.

Others for ME to consider: See above, haha!

Thoughts on Chalk (odds via Bet365.com)

Scottie Scheffler (+500): This is the best price we’ve seen on Scheffler in some time. He’s traveling with his family this week and next and will look to win in the UK for the first time. He did not start in 2024 after sharing third in 2023.

Rory McIlroy (+800): Tough laydown in PGA TOUR Fantasy this week, but Royal Portrush and East Lake are the final two starts for him for me. The 2023 champ cashed T4 last year and should factor after T7 at the Travelers.

Tommy Fleetwood (+1600): It’s a PGA TOUR event, but will not feel like it on the Firth of Forth. With a runner-up playoff loss, a T6 and T4, he should be on your card somewhere this week.

Xander Schauffele (+2000): Maybe the change of scenery is what he needs. The vibes of the UK might be the tonic to kick his 2025 season into gear. There’s no value here for the 2022 winner, but when is there??

Robert MacIntyre (+2200): He either embraces the pressure or takes a victory lap from last year. He’s playing too well for the latter.

Collin Morikawa (+2200): Really smart move sticking Englishman Billy Foster, a major championship winner on the bag of Matt Fitzpatrick, into action for this week and next on courses and conditions he’s familiar with. Let’s see how this week goes.

Ludvig Aberg (+2500): Got steamrolled Sunday by the Big Bob Wave and finished T4 after leading after 36 and 54 holes. Gotta hit it this week and that’s his strength!

Viktor Hovland (+3000): Is he hurt or injured? Neither? The Norwegian makes his first appearance after solo third at Oakmont and WD at the Travelers Championship the following week.

Justin Thomas (+3500): Plenty of low ones here, five at 65 or better, including 62 to open last year. No top 10 in his last three visits. I’ll wait for the FedExCup run-in.

Sam Burns (+3500): Bet. Too many good ones in a row, coupled with the disappointment of Sunday at Oakmont, should have him fired up. Big, undulating greens are right up his alley.

Matt Fitzpatrick (+3500): Eight straight includes a pair of T8 paydays in his last five. Quietly making noise.

Others for Top 10, Top 20, or Top 40 action

Harry Hall and Ryan Fox, both at +5000, are on fire recently. Hall DNS at JDC because he was qualifying for The Open. Fox, twice a winner this season, owns a top-five result from The Open last year. Tom Kim is a course horse with minimal recent form. Brian Harman doesn’t mind links golf. Byeong Hun An shares the course record (61), set when he T3 in 2023. Si Woo Kim hits it great and cashed T11 last week. Always play Matt Wallace for a Top 40. Andrew Novak went toe-to-toe with JT earlier this year. Any and all Scotsmen should get a top 40 play at minimum, but Ewen Ferguson and Richy Ramsay are must-plays. Richard Mansell also shot 61 here last year. Jorge Campillo and Grant Forrest could surprise.

Read my DFS DISH column for more thoughts. Here are a few others, not mentioned before, that should/can/might fill out cards (Ryan Fox was in here last week!)

LAST WEEK – John Deere Classic

THE CHOICE: Denny McCarthy

His streak of top 10 paydays busted at three straight with T11. Brian Campbell and Emiliano Grillo were never on my radar, but Grillo has now hit the podium twice in the Quad Cities, noted.

THIS Week – Genesis Scottish Open

THE CHOICE: Robert MacIntyre

If he’s not your pick, I’d lean on somebody from that part of the world. Also, the last three winners here have been stars, studs, and playing well. The volatility of the weather and the draw this week and next will provide an interesting subplot.

Others for me to consider: Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, Ludvig Aberg, Adam Scott, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Harry Hall. Too bad I’ve already burned through a few of these guys!

Thoughts on Chalk (odds via Bet365.com)

Scottie Scheffler (+280): This is his fourth event in four weeks. The song remains the same but unlike last week, he is the defending champion. No McIlroy again to bother.

Xander Schauffele (+1600): His final round has not been the issue. Finding form before the weekend is the next step to lifting a trophy.

Collin Morikawa (+1600): The new partnership should start delivering returns, especially at an event and course with excellent memories.

Justin Thomas (+1800): T18 is the best of his last five visits. Pass.

Patrick Cantlay (+2200): The only two-time winner playing. He runs well where he runs well.

Ludvig Aberg (+2500): Big ballpark is a perfect fit, again.

Tommy Fleetwood (+2500): Returning for the first time since 2017, the Englishman cashed T20 in 2024. The fact he didn’t enter from 2018 through 2023 suggests he’s not in love with the place.

Corey Conners (+3000): No Canadian has won this event, but he’s hit the top 20 twice in his last three visits (T20-MC-T13).

Viktor Hovland (+3000): Put a coin in the machine and hold on with both hands! This is not the week to be fighting with swing thoughts.

Others for Top 10, Top 20, or Top 40 action

Read my DFS DISH column for more thoughts. Here are a few others, not mentioned before, that should/can/might fill out cards (Matti Schmid was in here last week!)

Rickie Fowler for a top 20 is not the worst idea I’ve floated recently. … Christiaan Bezuidenhout should be hanging around the top of the board as well. … Byeong Hun An owns six T25 or better and has lost a playoff. … Andrew Novak keeps ticking along. … If Finau is dialed in, this week checks the boxes tee to green. … Max Greyserman is trending and has cashed in five straight.

LAST WEEK – 79th Charles Schwab Challenge

The last three winners are Davis Riley, Emiliano Grillo, and Jason Kokrak.

Scheffler is in the field and is one of just 20 players from the top 50 OWGR playing.

The only downside is the $1.71 million winner’s share. Or, you could have burned him at RBC Heritage and earned 500k, like I did. (Editor’s note: Scheffler made 427,500 last week in Fort Worth).

Whatever.

THE CHOICE: Jordan Spieth – T36

I didn’t overthink DeChambeau, and I’m not overlooking Spieth.

I’d be pleased as punch for a top 5 and will settle for a top 10.

Hot garbage!

Others to consider: Daniel Berger – MC, Harry Hall – T6, JT Poston – T36, Brian Harman- T46

THIS Week – 50th Memorial Tournament

The seventh of eight Signature Events and the final Invitational, which means there is a cut!

With a purse bigger than the PGA Championship, and a field without Rory McIlroy, yeah, I’d fire Scheffler, but I don’t have to worry about that anymore! Scheffler did play well at Oakmont, albeit as an amateur in 2016, but winning back-to-back majors ain’t easy.

THE CHOICE: Hideki Matsuyama

Here we go! I gotta make sure I have a backup selection ready to go, too!

Since his victory to open the year at Kapalua, the Japanese star, who ran T8 here last year and T16 in 2023 on a very demanding design, has not produced another top-10 result. The 2014 winner makes his 12th start and should be comfortable in central Ohio.

Others to consider: Patrick Cantlay, Corey Conners, Ludvig Aberg, Denny McCarthy

Thoughts on Chalk (odds via Bet365.com)

Scottie Scheffler (+275): No need to bet this in a shootout, but if he does win, Bolton will be in the category of OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR in the Expert’s Fantasy League. The good news? I have Scheffler in my local league this week because I cannot pick two-man teams to save my life. Can’t lose!

Jordan Spieth (+1800): He loves playing at TPC Scottsdale, another Tom Weiskopf layout, but he’s never won there either.

Sungjae Im (+2200): He would join Taylor Pendrith and KH Lee as debutant winners at TPC Craig Ranch.

Byeong-Hun An (+2500): The history of Korean winners at this event is strong. An is still searching for his first on the PGA TOUR.

Sam Burns (+2500): The baby boy has arrived and is one. No wins for Burns = no nappy factor. Odd.

Si Woo Kim (+3000): The 54-hole leader at RBC Heritage picked up his first top 10 of the season. He’s run T13-T2 in his last two visits. Win ticket.

Taylor Pendrith (+3300): Hell, if K.H. Lee can win in back-to-back years, why not the Canadian? Plenty of pop and a super putter is a great formula this week.

Others for Top 10, Top 20, or Top 40 action

Read my DFS DISH column for more thoughts. Here are a few others, not mentioned before, that should/can/might fill out cards:

Let’s see if Rasmus Hojgaard (+4500) can pull an Andrew Novak and go from second to first the following week. It’s a terrible number, but Chris Gotterup (+11000) should fit nicely again here. Matti Schmid (+12500) is wonderfully all-or-nothing. Will Chandler (+100000) introduced himself at TPC Scottsdale, another Weiskopf design.

TPC Craig Ranch

Just when we were getting comfortable, Lanny Wadkins will renovate every blade of grass not on the tee boxes before the 2026 event.

The Par-71, one of the easiest on TOUR, added six new tee boxes and increased the rough, but big greens and easy scrambling conditions equal another birdie-fest!

With a light field and a shootout on the menu, hang on to your hats, gang!

LAST WEEK – Zurich Classic

THE CHOICE: Kurt Kitayama/Collin Morikawa

I was #influenced or #undertheinfluence when I made that selection. Morikawa was on the outs with his longtime caddy, J.J. Jackovac, they split after the event, and Kitayama wasn’t playing well.

Whatever. Nothing LOST, yet nothing gained.

THIS Week – THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

With only seven of the top players in the OWGR Top 50 entering, it’s time to have some fun. And by fun, I mean I have no idea who will win. I will trust a hot Dallas resident who is coming off his best finish, on his own ball, two weeks ago at the RBC Heritage. The 54-hole leader faded on Sunday to T8, but he will not have to hold off a deep field this time. He shared second two years ago and was T13 last year, so it’s clear he’s comfortable in the home game.

THE CHOICE: Si Woo Kim

Head to Golfbet for all our content each week.

Top of the Board (odds via Bet365)

No Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy to gnash teeth over this week.

Only 16 of the top 50 OWGR are playing as a tune-up for Augusta National.

The only way to get in the Masters this week, if not already qualified, is to win.

Ludvig Aberg (+1200), the Swedish ball-striking machine, sits at the top of the pile. Already a winner this year at a demanding Torrey Pines South, the four-year player formally of Texas Tech won’t be bothered by the energy in the atmosphere. Making his third start, yet only second as a pro, he signed for T14 last year.

Tommy Fleetwood (+1600) and Corey Conners (+1600) take up the next two spots. Fleetwood, never a winner on TOUR, ran T7 on debut and led the field in Bogey Avoidance last year. Conners, the only two-time winner, has two wins on TOUR, each at TPC San Antonio. He’s never missed the cut or cashed worse than T34.

Patrick Cantlay (+1800) is an interesting addition this week. Making his debut, the Californian will knock the simulator rust off after winning TGL with his mates from Atlanta. I’m more interested next week and DEFINITELY at RBC Heritage where he will almost certainly be my OAD selection.

Hideki Matsuyama (+2000) keeps rolling quietly along. The winner at The Sentry to open the season, he always returns to TPC San Antonio after his 2021 debut that was followed by his Green Jacket. If he’s turning up each year, I’m sold on this being a proper tune-up for Augusta National.

Akshay Bhatia (+2200) picked up his first top-10 result of 2024 with his playoff win here last year. In 2025, he’s on a run of three top-10 paydays in his last four on TOUR. The only left-hander to win it, he seeks to become the first player to successfully defend the title at TPC San Antonio. Bet.

Jordan Spieth (+2500), when healthy, and that appears to be the case entering the week, contends this time of year. The off-season wrist surgery is fading to the memory bank, and results are getting closer and closer to the old days. The 2021 champion has four top-10 paydays from eight starts.

Keegan Bradley (+2800) continues to balance TGL, TOUR starts, and the Ryder Cup captaincy. A stern test tee-to-green fits his strengths. As long as the energy level remains high, I’m on board.

Denny McCarthy (+3000) still has not reached the summit but he enjoys TPC San Antonio. Needing just 92 putts last year, tying the TOUR record, he birdied his last seven holes, posted the course record 28 on the inward nine, shot 63, and lost in a playoff.

Daniel Berger and Gary Woodland come in red hot, while Si Woo Kim has cashed in six straight here. … Sam Stevens (T14, 2nd) and Lee Hodges (T11 last week) should also receive deeper inspections. … Chris Kirk, another course horse of years gone by, presents a tasty number at +6600.

5 Players to consider for Top 10, Top 20, or Top 40 action:

Three of the five last week cashed T18, T18, and 10th, so I hope you were paying attention. BONUS BALL Gary Woodland was T2. I can’t leave him out #Heater!

Eric Cole (+9000) picked up T12 at Valspar and backed it up with T15 in Houston.

Mac Meissner (+8000) is the hometown hero this week.  The SMU grad has cashed in his last three events and knows this layout (T10 2024).

Jesper Svensson (+10000) has cashed in six straight.

Matt Kuchar (+12500) owns T12 or better in four of his last five starts and eight T25 or better from 11 paydays career.

Alejandro Tosti (+15000) earned a pair of top-10s, including T5 last week, on big, driver-necessary tracks. This week qualifies.

Bonus Ball: Trey Mullinax (+17500) popped up on the walk-and-talk last weekend before fading to T34. He owns the course record, 62, at TPC San Antonio and can #Send it.

LAST WEEK – Texas Children’s Houston Open

With the two heavyweights battling it out. I’m down to two players: Finau and Rai.

Rai gets the benefit of the doubt on current form, and he did run T4 at Vidanta.

THE CHOICE: Aaron Rai – MC

Only my second MC of the season, but it feels like every week has been a disaster. Finau didn’t provide any “second guessing” with his Twhatevernotclosetothetop10, so that’s my consolation prize.

Whatever

Nothing better than having the winner and 10th place on the bench!

THIS Week – Valero Texas Open

No brainer.

Next week, I’ll have to burn some RAM for the first major championship, but I’m heading north of the border this week.
