The Greenest Show on Grass
Big names litter the winners circle at TPC Scottsdale so keep that in mind this week!
The People’s Open is just that.
2022 One and Done
Thanks for reading!
The purpose of this column is to free my mind and have some fun all while trying to find some winners.
From a transparency standpoint, most of my recent years are listed below so you can check how I’ve performed.
The price is the same as last year, ZERO, but my Venmo is @Mike-Glasscott if you would like to donate. You might even get your name on the column!
Sometimes we gotta look back before we look forward so I’ll post my thoughts from last week before breaking down the field this week.
Last Time – AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Beautiful weather on the Monterrey Peninsula but brutal conditions on the scorecard! At least I don’t delete my tweets if I have a bad week!
If this was your week for Spieth or Cantlay, you can accept it, I guess. Just reinforces how hard it is to win a golf tournament and everyone needs a little luck whether you’re playing or gambling!
I made the cut and am averaging about 200k per event so I can’t be too upset but as my dude Chadders says: I WANT WINNERS!
We’ll try again at TPC Scottsdale!
THE CHOICE: Maverick McNealy – T33
So much for the local knowledge angle this week as he checked in T56 in Putting after T19 GIR. I wasn’t playing Cantlay or Spieth this week so at least I was feeling THAT disappointment.
Top heavy this week and didn’t find any love in the panning for gold department.
Some weeks you’re the windshield, sometimes you’re the bug.
Warm Blankets: The guys who should. Safe selections that will help maintain leads. Opinions on why or why not for this event or save for later.
Patrick Cantlay: Anytime he’s in the field he’s on this list. California angle is very real so is 62 at Pebble last year. T4 after sitting one shot out of the final group on Sunday shows he’s human. Another week, another top 10. Good boring.
Daniel Berger: T20 last week knocked the rust off on the mainland after T5 at Sentry to kick off 2022. T1 Fairways last week on a very difficult driving course. No problem defending as show in Memphis. Pre tournament WD >>>>>>>>>>> all the rest of the WD. No blood, no foul but a back issue to keep an eye on moving forward.
Jason Day: This was probably my second choice. Hit enough solid ones last week to garner attention and a podium. He’s always in the mix here as well so I hope I’m not kicking myself around 6pm Sunday! Tough lay down. T24 after sitting four back entering Sunday. More proof it’s not “ready” to take out of the oven just yet. Another bullet dodged.
Jordan Spieth: 2017 champ loves it around here but not as much as Magnolia Lane or Colonial. Led with three holes to go and finished Second. Ouch BUT almost a million for his effort is nothing to sneeze at if you went this way. Still a tough beat but Hoge WON that tournament.
Justin Rose: Top 10 last week and making cuts for fun suggests he’s returning to Rose form. Played well across the board last week T6 and won’t have any problem if he’s in contention. Finished 62nd after 78 in the final round from T21. Woof.
Spicy: This might be a week for sending out an “unknown” and saving a start. You just might get lucky. Or MC.
Cameron Tringale: Here’s why: ZOZO T2, MC Mayakoba, T7 Houston, MC AMEX, T3 Farmers. Spot a pattern? Right. MC it is, just as the pattern suggested!
Min Woo Lee: Won the Aberdeen Scottish Open last summer and has four top 10s in his last six (all made cuts) worldwide. Won’t be saving him for later. MC with his worst round on Pebble Beach.
Brandt Snedeker: 2X champ in 2015 and 2013 and has both tournament scoring records. He’s also MC in his last three visits and MC last week at another track where he’s won twice in his career. Ghost pepper! MC. Not even close for the second week in a row on a course he loves. Noted.
Kevin Streelman: It’s his major. He plays with his dude Larry Fitzgerald annually and they’ve peeled off T17 or better in six straight. For my money this is THE zag play against the zig chalk for the week. MC. Opened with 67 then cratered with 77 in Round 2. See ya!
Aaron Rai: No Englishman has ever won this event. No European has ever won this event. Of his last six on TOUR four have cashed T19 or better including a season best T6 last week at Torrey Pines where he played in the final group. MDF. Wrong Englishman (Fitzpatrick).
3 AM at the Blackjack Table: Caution is thrown to the wind. Maybe not the best for this format but what the hell, right? Might throw these in if you’re in need of a miracle.
Mito Pereira – MC, Michael Thompson – MC, Brandon Harkins – MC, Joseph Bramlett – MC, Matthew NeSmith – T65, Chez Reavie – MC

THE CHOICE: Hideki Matsuyama
Didn’t flinch after winning the Masters and pressure doesn’t register with this guy. I have no worries about his T30 at Torrey Pines as he never is in contention on that track. Back to target golf in the desert and he’s already won on Bermuda this year at Sony.
He’s healthy, playing great and has a two wins and a second on this track.
Go win another one! Big players tend to hoist the trophy here and he easily qualifies.
Fans gonna be there. Noise gonna be there. He’s conquered this twice.
Warm Blankets: The guys who should. Safe selections that will help maintain leads. Opinions on why or why not for this event or save for later.
Jon Rahm: Best finish here is just T5 and he did it as a student at ASU. I’m saving him for bigger events but you gotta do you.
Justin Thomas: Nothing worse than T17 here in seven tries and has no problem going low.
Jordan Spieth: If you think he’s fired up after his closing holes last week, please, go ahead. I’ll be there for Magnolia Lane or Colonial.
Viktor Hovland: LOVES the desert and is shit fire hot with three wins from five worldwide. First appearance and big Bermuda greens isn’t the combo I need this week.
Scottie Scheffler: Just hits it too well and the rust should be off after AMEX and Torrey Pines. T7 here last year.
Matt Fitzpatrick: Desert dawg in the Middle East and popped another top 10 at Pebble Beach. Heat is heat.
Spicy: This might be a week for sending out an “unknown” and saving a start. You just might get lucky. Or MC.
Brooks Koepka: Rolled in last year MC-MC-MC and won. Won twice in four visits but the other two are T40-somethings. Lovely risk reward.
Xander Schauffele: T2 last year but I can’t remember his last top 10 on TOUR.
Branden Grace: Two trips, a second and T9.
Louis Oosthuizen: Solo third and T11 in two starts but WD with a neck/back deal last time he was entered. Careful.
Webb Simpson: Plenty of success here and TPC Summerlin suggests he’s LIVE this week. His recent results suggests looking elsewhere.
Bubba Watson: He’s comfortable here, Riviera and Augusta. Choose wisely or not at all.
3 AM at the Blackjack Table: Caution is thrown to the wind. Maybe not the best for this format but what the hell, right? Might throw these in if you’re in need of a miracle.

2018-19
My contributions for the major championships and PLAYERS selection were worse than bad so to still break the $10 million mark with those awful results was encouraging.
Another valuable lesson learned is that the Playoffs are for the big boys. Now, WHICH big boys make this more and more difficult and that’s why it’s enjoyable and maddening all at the same time. Only McIlroy and Woods have won the FedExCup twice so start there.
